The Ameland municipal council unanimously approved the municipality’s Heat Transition Vision in November 2021. In this vision, Ameland explores the options to heat all buildings on the island sustainably in the foreseeable future, i.e. without natural gas.
Transition from below
The Ameland vision deviates quite a bit from what is customary nationally, because a district-oriented approach for buildings on the island is not appropriate. The municipality wants to work together with residents and entrepreneurs on a heat transition ‘from below’. This means that each home owner (or groups of owners who have the same wishes and ideas) examines which options are the most attractive. Based on this approach, ‘charrettes’ took place, meetings with residents, to jointly arrive at a shared view on the sustainable energy supply for Ameland.
Research financing offers
The municipality is also investigating the possibilities of setting up a financing offer that makes the transition accessible to everyone. The transition vision was developed with support from the Interreg program SAVE.
