A project from the early years of Sustainable Ameland was the construction of a natural gas filling station, which allowed the public transport buses on the island to switch to natural gas instead of diesel oil. The advantage of driving on natural gas was a much longer-lasting emission of CO₂, particulate matter and nitrogen oxides.
Ten years later, in 2017, the natural gas buses were replaced by fully electric buses. They are charged with green energy and therefore drive truly climate neutral.
