One of the first projects of the Sustainable Ameland partnership was a trial involving the addition of sustainably produced hydrogen to the natural gas network. Until then, this was not yet allowed. In the Ameland test setup, GasTerra, Stedin and Eneco investigated the effects of mixing.
Successful experiment
A separate section of the gas network was constructed for this purpose. Fourteen homes used a mixture of hydrogen and natural gas for years. The conclusion: mixing up to twenty percent is no problem for users, equipment and pipes. The experiment attracted a lot of international interest. It has now been completed.
