Work on Tidal Kite continues apace

In the Wadden Sea south of Hollum, SeaQurrent is working on the location for the Tidal Kite. Work was carried out underwater from a pontoon to anchor the installation on the seabed. The area has been cordoned off with buoys by Rijkswaterstaat. Space has been made inside the dike for an extra transformer house; this is temporary and will disappear after the test phase.

SeaQurrent is positive about the progress. The Kite itself is expected later this year. An exact date cannot yet be given; this partly depends on the weather. The Tidal Kite is a very innovative technique for generating sustainable electricity from tidal currents. The technology has already been tested on a small scale and is now being implemented on a real scale for the first time at Ameland, where the Kite will supply electricity to the public electricity grid.
