A gas-fired central heating system for hot water for showering, central heating, cooking on gas. Most of us still take it for granted, but things are changing. That means things will be different ‘behind the front door’.
As the switch to heat without natural gas affects everyone, we are working together with residents, entrepreneurs, owners of recreational homes and other parties to find suitable solutions for the island.
Process
The road to natural gas-free is complex. Amelanders have the most important voice in it. Their wishes, possibilities and ideas are central to assessing and analysing the options. Village meetings took place in the four villages on Ameland in early 2023. This will be continued. The municipality will keep residents informed about this. The input and insights will ultimately lead to a recommendation to Ameland’s municipal council.
Four promising routes (with today’s knowledge)
The municipality of Ameland has the legal task of organising the transition to natural gas-free and is investigating the technical possibilities. The municipality is currently investigating the four options below for feasibility and affordability
1.Electrification, (neighbourhood) heat pumps
2.Electrification, small heat networks
Heat grid HT with geothermal energy as source
4.Hydrogen through gas grid
There are still a lot of questions to be answered. Meanwhile, residents can take insulation and other energy-saving measures! The energy advisor can help residents and entrepreneurs on their way: edeboer@ameland.nl
